If you do not see a course on LIST 1 or LIST 2:

It may mean that the course does not have a prerequisite requirement or it may mean that the course has advanced prerequisites that must be completed at SBCC.

How do I know what the prerequisite is for a class? From the Schedule of Classes you can click on the Course Number ("CRN") of a course and a window will open with the course description. The "PREREQ" information lists the prerequisite requirement. See this sample for more information.

Example 1: SPAN 101 does not have a prerequisite so you do not need to request additional clearance to take the course.

Example 2: MATH 138 has a prerequisite of MATH 137. You need to complete SBCC's MATH 137 before you can take MATH 138. There are no local high school courses that cover the content of MATH 137.

Example 3: ENG 111 has a prerequisite of ENG 110. You need to complete SBCC's ENG 110 or pass an English AP exam with a score of 3, 4, or 5 before you can take ENG 111. There are no local high school courses that cover the content of ENG 110.

Please Note:

  • You are not allowed to register in courses that require prerequisites or corequisites until your request is approved.
  • You must also have all necessary Dual Enrollment Forms completed in order to register.
  • An approved prerequisite clearance request does not guarantee space in any course.
  • An add code from an instructor does not override a prerequisite requirement. You still need a placement or an approved prerequisite clearance request in order to register.
